I just got this by e-mail from Democracy for America:
What do Republicans stand for?
Ask pretty much any Republican anywhere in the country and you'll get the same answer -- Strong military, smaller government, tax cuts.
So, what do Democrats stand for?
Well, that depends on who you ask, doesn't it?
Republicans are better than Democrats at cutting to the core of their message to mobilize their supporters.
That's why tonight's DFA Night School is all about messaging. Progressive activists across the country need to be able to build and spread an effective message about the candidates and issues they support if we're going to win in November.
Translated into Tarzan,
They strong.
We weak.
If this message is all about messaging, it's a major fail.
We are not weak and they are not strong. What do republicans stand for? They stand for "Me, and fuck you!" They are united in not being Democrats or for nothing at all. The Republicans have sold out the Republic for their own party.
What do we stand for?
We stand for good government, for social security, for good public education, for universal health care, for equal rights.
We are patriots, and we support our troops. We therefore support a smaller defense budget and less military intervention abroad.
We stand for compassion in governance, inclusion of minorities. We stand for the ordinary Americans against the corporations.
We stand for civil rights and protection of the constitution. We stand for religious freedom. We stand for free speech. We stand against unreasonable search and seizure.
We support our local teachers, fire departments, and police.
Hell, we stand for almost all of America, even the dumb poor idiots who think the Republican party actually cares about them. Yes, we even stand for the dumb idiots who don't understand that they're being lied to by a bunch of soul-less jerks who will do and say anything for the uber-rich.
For reference, here's the rest of the message.
Hey, if we're all about messaging, stop sending out a bullshit message about how bad we are at messaging.
Democrats stand for something, so Attention DFA, stop saying we don't!
If any of you RSVP for the online training, please give them an earful.
FYI, here's the rest of the message.
RSVP now for tonight's free online training and learn how to message for success.
DFA Night School is a free online program that has helped train over 30,000 activists nationwide. Tonight's Night School is the first of a six-part series working to train DFA members and other activists with the skills they need to put candidates they support over the top.
DFA Political Director Charles Chamberlain and I will be leading tonight's Night School -- and we'll be streaming live out of DFA headquarters in Burlington, Vermont. We'll teach you how to develop a compelling and effective message that will help you mobilize voters in support of your candidate. It's something that every progressive activist should know.
Join us tonight, August 18, at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time to learn how to message for success.
We know our candidates are better than the opposition. When our candidates message for success, there's no stopping us.
Thank you for everything you do.
